A lineup of Japanese EV/ PHEV cars

What are EV/ PHEV cars?

The term "Electric Vehicle" (EV) stands for a vehicle that uses electricity rather than an internal combustion engine, such as a gasoline engine, to power a motor, and a vehicle that complements the difficulties with EVs is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The PHEV also has a motor, although its primary mode of operation is as an electric vehicle (EV). When the battery is low on charge, however, the generator is employed as a power-producing engine (partially driven).

List of famous EV cars

  • Nissan Leaf
  • Honda E
  • Peugeot e-208
  • Mazda MX- 30
  • Lexus UX300e
  • Audi e-tron series
  • Porsche Taycan
  • Tesla Model 3
  • BMW iX
  • Mercedes Benz (EQ) EQC
  • Jaguar I-PACE

The Honda e and Nissan Leaf domestic models, as well as the imported Peugeot e-208, are typical examples of compact class EVs.

The Honda e is a four-person urban commuter with a contemporary, approachable, and straightforward design. The most notable characteristic is RR (rear motor/rear-drive), which has a motor situated at the back. To further accentuate its sophistication, the interior features the first wide-vision instrument panel in the world, which has five screens stacked horizontally. The battery has a 35.5kWh overall capacity, and its cruising distance is 283km.

The Nissan Leaf made its debut as the first mass-market Japanese EV car in the world in 2010, and the current model is from the second generation, which underwent a complete redesign in 2017. It is a 5-seater 5-door hatchback, and the standard model has a cruising range of 322km at 40kWh, but the model with a 62kWh battery has a cruising range of 458km, which is the longest long drive in its class.

Due to the height of the vehicle and their strong affinity with EVs, SUVs have a wide range of packaging flexibility, which allows us to provide a variety of models.

The MX-30, Mazda's first mass-produced EV, is the standout model in the tiny class. Since the RX-8, Mazda has used the first double-door type freestyle door that successfully marries a fashionable aesthetic with practicality. The cruising distance is 256km, and the battery capacity is 35.5kWh.

The Lexus UX300e, which is also the brand's first mass-produced EV, is the other. We strive for high-quality driving and exceptional quietness that are exclusive to Lexus while preserving the distinctive design, high level of comfort, and simplicity of handling that UX features. It has a battery capacity of 54.4 kWh and a 367-kilometer range while cruising.

Audi is ready to seize the hegemony with EVs after announcing that it will only produce new cars after 2026. The brand name of the EV is "e-tron." The small SUVs Q4 e-tron and Q4 sports bag e-tron (launched after fall 2022) and large SUVs are available in Japan. The portfolio consists of six vehicles with three versions each, the e-tron and e-tron sports bag, the e-tron GT and RS, and the big sedan e-tron GT. Both vehicles include a high-output motor and a large-capacity battery, enabling Audi's signature dynamic driving.

The Taycan, which will be the e-tron GT's sibling model starting in 2020, was also released in Japan by Porsche, a member of the same Volkswagen group as Audi.

The highest grade Turbo S of the Taycan features a high specification with a maximum output of 750hp (about 760ps) and a total of 93.4kWh of electric power. The Taycan is a sports car, whereas the e-tron GT is a Gran Turismo, hence it performs better than the latter.

Tesla is a car company that only makes electric vehicles, and its compact sedan, the model 3, is popular all around the world. The stunning performance of 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.3 seconds, the lengthy cruising range of 565km, and the affordable price setting of 4.79 million yen are the keys to its success.

The Mercedes-Benz (EQ) EQC and Jaguar I-PACE (I-Pace), which were brought to Japan early in 2018, have a total length of 4770/4695 mm, respectively, so both are higher. In addition, the imported brand SUV is in the process of being separated into groups. It is a product of the middle class. It can be argued that the performance is comparable because both have high-output motors that are over 400 ps and have a cruising range of 430 km or more.

The Peugeot e-208 is characterized by sharing the body and chassis with the gasoline car 208. Compared to gasoline-powered vehicles, the interior space such as the living space does not change, and it is easy to use. It is equipped with a 50kWh battery and has a cruising range of 380km.

Gachinko's direct competitors are the upper-middle-class SUVs RAV4 PHV and Outlander PHEV. The RAV4 PHV only offers regular charging, but the Outlander PHEV supports quick charging. The Outlander PHEV has the weapon of strong running performance by Mitsubishi's proud electric 4WD technology and a 3-row seat 7-seater. At maximum output, the RAV4 PHV with a system output of 306ps goes up to the rankings.

Then, in November 2021, BMW simultaneously unveiled the iX and iX3 electric SUVs in Japan. The iX3 is in the same upper middle class as the EQC and I-PACE and has a total length of 4740 mm, whereas the iX has a total length of 4955 mm and is in the same large class as the e-Tron. The iX will be a two-motor 4WD that employs a bespoke platform, whereas the X is a one-motor EV based on the X3 and will be FR (front motor/rear-drive).

The NX450h + is an SUV that is about the same size as these two cars but comes with a special Lexus premium. Although it has the same technology as the RAV4 PHV, the NX450h + generates a texture that is superior to Lexus'.

Compact to medium-sized SUVs from imported brands are one size smaller than the previous three vehicles.

With a total length of 4255 mm, Jeep's first PHEV Renegade has a recognizable appearance that is all it's own.

The GT Hybrid 4 PHEV type is available for the Peugeot 3008, which is well-known for its elegant look. The system output of this is 300ps, which is much more power than can be inferred from its outward appearance.

Volvo has established a PHEV as a recharge plug-in hybrid for its XC40, XC60, and XC90 cars. With a total length of 4425 mm, the XC40 is the smallest and can travel 41 km on electric power using basic FF settings.

The big SUV The Porsche Cayenne has an E-hybrid with a system output of 462 horsepower and a turbo S E-hybrid with a system output of 680 horsepower. Furthermore, coupe models are available in each of these. Remarkably, the Turbo S E-fast Hybrid's thrilling driving style will have you feeling like a Porsche even in an SUV.

There will also be a PHEV version of the Land Rover Range Rover. The 410ps P410e and the 510ps P510e are two variants in the lineup that are powered by a 3-liter straight-six Plus engine. Its strong off-road performance results in great mobility, and it demonstrates off-road driving with confidence.

The second generation of Toyota's Prius PHV is the current model of Japanese PHEV car. It projects an advanced image by using a design that is different from the Prius. You can be more active without using fuel because of its quick charging capabilities and 60 km range.

In the A class of small automobiles, Mercedes-Benz has established the PHEVs A250e and A250 sedan as build-to-order models. The 1.3-liter turbo engine produces 160 ps and 250 Nm of torque, but when multiplied by the motor's 72 kW (102 ps) and 300 Nm of power, it exhibits acceleration that cannot be predicted based solely on appearance.

BMW is also increasing its PHEV selection, however, the 330e PHEV is available on the 3 Series medium-class cars. It has a motor and a 2-liter straight-four turbo engine, and it has a high specification of 215kW. (about 292ps). The PHEV is finished with the thrill of running through, as recommended by BMW, and the driving is revitalizing.

Bottom line is, that all these cars hold the future of the car industry. Japan is always considered to have the best car brands worldwide. And Japanese EV/ PHEV cars are top-rated for their robustness and easy-to-handle features.
